When you buy a new battery for your laptop, you should know how to charge it properly so that it lasts you for a long time. Usually laptop batteries are lithium-ion batteries. Before you start using them on a full time basis, you should charge the battery completely three times and then discharge it completely three times. By doing this, you ensure that the chemicals inside the battery are activated. In future, when you charge the battery, it will be able to charge optimally.

The first thing to know is that simple battery care can enhance the performance and useful life of your cell phone battery. If you charge your phone each night, your battery will last 12-15 months. If you are only charging twice a week, your battery should last 2-3 years. So, if you can get away with charging less, then that's a sure fire way to getting longer life.

Now you want to discharge the battery. If you disable the hibernation setting or anything else that might make the computer go into power saving mode, it would be better. Let the computer run until it shuts down due to loss of battery power, then turn it back on.
